With the prices of holidays abroad rising, staying in England is looking more tempting than ever for some this year.
One option is the New Forest, which offers idyllic woods and open moorland across 90,000 acres of National Park, as well as 43 miles of coast.
Only 90 minutes from London Waterloo, it’s a walker’s paradise, with miles of woodland paths and ponies, cattle and deer roaming free, it’s a sight the kids will love.
If trekking through the forest on foot, bike or horseback isn’t your thing, there are plenty of alternatives.
The National Motor Museum in Beaulieu is a must see for any car enthusiast, as it features over 250 vehicles from different eras.
For the adventurous types, the New Forest has lots going on. Visit Go Ape for some high-wire forest fun, or New Forest Activities to experience a range of water sports on the Beaulieu River.
The family theme park, Paultons Park is great for all ages and there’s a newly opened Peppa Pig attraction for the little ones.
For the animal lovers, try Longdown Activity Farm where you can get up close to the animals, or Amews Falconry, which lets you hold and fly birds of prey.
Step back in time and visit the postcard-perfect towns and villages and get a taste of the traditional English holiday with fish and chips at Lymington, where you can also go crabbing.
For accommodation, there are quaint cottages and B&Bs available. But if your kids don’t want the forest adventures to end at night, you can camp in the woods or stay in a log cabin.
