Joanne Robinson shares the delights of one of the South’s most family
friendly museums; right on our doorstep just over the county border in
Surrey. With three children under six I am a fan of aspiring to an easy life,
and a bit too strapped for cash to enjoy frequent trips to the capital
with the hassle and extra expense it entails. So rather than visiting
the big museums in London I’d take a toddler-friendly local museum in
preference any day.

Toddler Fun at the Royal Naval Museum

Written by Joanne Robinson

Mum-of-three Joanne Robinson offers a guide to taking young children
around the Royal Naval Museum in Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyards. One of
the problems with looking for new places to take your happy babies and
toddlers, is just not knowing what you’ll find when you get there. This is, I find, especially true of the museum world. In the past I’ve
been fired with enthusiasm after hearing descriptions of museums
(usually from friends with no kids)

St Barbe Museum, Lymington

Joanne Robinson heads to Lymington for a perfect spring day with the kids.I have a confession. The first time I took my toddlers into a museum it
was under duress and with utter dread. Child One (age 2) was gripped
firmly by the hand, Child Two (age 1) was strapped into the buggy. My bag contained emergency supplies (chocolate buttons, packet of crayons and scraps of paper).

Staying with friends in Tuscany
|
How many times have I heard parents say they are in need of another
holiday immediately following their blissful return home, feeling more
tired and bewildered by the experience of travelling and coping with
their children’s needs while abroad than before their family voyage had
even began? My holiday experience to Tuscany was the complete opposite
to this!

The first few weeks, are undoubtedly the hardest. It is important to take things as they come and just nap whenever you can.Remember your newborn has no concept of night or day and will probably
only sleep for a few hours at a time before needing another feed or
nappy change. Don’t worry about the housework - it can wait. Sleep when they
sleep and remember to eat when you can. Try to keep up your energy
levels so that you are able to cope with the demands of your baby. Some of the best tips for getting your baby off to sleep are the most
obvious. If you put your baby down while they are snug and warm and
asleep,

St John Ambulance has developed a course specifically for severe
allergic emergency situations and it has been endorsed by Allergy UK. Anaphylaxis first aid: Acute, severe allergy is thought to affect
around one million people in the UK with half of those suffering from
acute, severe food allergies.Young children are the group most affected and although 80-90 percent
will grow out of allergies to milk, eggs, soy or wheat, allergies to
nuts and seafood are less frequently outgrown. Other allergens include
insect stings, medication and pollen.Naphylaxis, or anaphylactic shock,
is a sudden massive reaction that involves the whole body with
appalling results. It usually happens within minutes of being exposed
to an offending allergen or trigger and requires immediate treatment.

‘Please Don’t Go’ Separation Anxiety in Babies and Children
|
|
Written by Dr Angharad Rudkin
|
Sarah has a 3 year old daughter, Lauren. Leaving Lauren in the nursery
has always been a nightmare. Lauren screams and cries for hours. Sarah
usually ends up sneaking away. As she hears Lauren’s cries get louder,
she usually starts crying herself. Lauren would much rather be at home with mummy than in the
nursery. She feels uncomfortable when mummy leaves her there and so she
clings on to mummy for as long as she can. Lauren doesn’t like the
other grown ups who try to take her away from mummy. They don’t look
after her the way mummy does. Two sides of a very familiar story called ‘separation anxiety’, the
feelings and behaviours babies and children have when they are being
separated from
