Providing continuity and challenge as your child progresses through
their education is central to academic success and personal
development. At Hampshire Collegiate School, Embley Park, Romsey, this
is second nature to a school that provides the best for all children
aged from 2 years 9 months right through to ‘A’ Levels. Junior School
Head Teacher, Mrs Elaine Hooton, emphasises the value of small classes
and committed teachers for each individual child.
“ Our recent school inspection has noted as a strength our broad, stimulating, challenging and creative curriculum. This allows your child fully to reach their potential. Our Early Years teaching team focuses on ensuring early successes. The confidence this gives unleashes potential throughout their school career, and beyond. Coupled with this, our attention to monitoring the progress of individual children allows us to ensure that sensitive support is provided when needed and that we can stretch and challenge all children, including the very able and talented. This is the case for within the core academic areas, for the arts or for sports. This is why our recent inspection also noted that our work toward the personal development of our pupils is outstanding”
The Early Years unit within this, comprises a Nursery and two Reception classes integral to the main school. Younger and older children mix for play and to dine together each day with their teachers. The Nursery accommodation is light and airy for busy interactive play and learning and has a separate quiet room for focused teaching of early reading, writing and mathematical skills. Colourful and spacious Reception classrooms allow for ready access for parents and carers so that daily contact with teachers is a matter of course. Children also have extensive soft and hard play areas adjacent and within the safe area of the school grounds there are 120 acres of parkland and woodland to explore and enjoy throughout the seasons.
Located off the A27 between Romsey and Salisbury, H.C.S. was once the family home of Florence Nightingale. The school has benefited from the single largest development programme for an independent school in this country during 2006/7. £15m has been invested to create a new and wholly purpose-built junior school, an extensive new senior school building and sports facilities that are second-to-none, including a full-sized floodlit astro-turf pitch, smaller all-weather games area and new pitches. All of these are accessible to the junior school and provide an impressive backdrop to the high quality learning that takes place across the school.
