Plan Ahead Advises Headmistress of St Swithun’s Junior School. It is advisable to plan well ahead when researching the options for
educating your children and this is certainly the advice to parents
from Pim Grimes, Headmistress at St Swithun’s Junior School, an
independent day school for boys aged 3-7 and girls aged 3-11.
She says “I see a number of parents with children who are looking for a place with us in 2009 or 2010 and, sadly, I have to tell them that I am only able to offer a place on the waiting list. This is often a surprise to them but the fact is that we are now taking registrations for 2011. While I am delighted that numbers are so strong, my heart goes out to parents whose children I do not have a place for and my advice to parents is always to contact us as soon as they possibly can.”
In addition to St Swithun’s strong academic reputation, extra-curricular activities are also an important part of school life. The school offers inclusive sport to encourage as many pupils as possible to play in competitive matches. Swimming is particularly strong, although pupils also enjoy netball, gymnastics and dance. There is also an active diving club and tennis is available as an after-school club.
One of the benefits of the Junior School is that it shares facilities with the Senior School, including an indoor swimming pool, floodlit netball and tennis courts and 45 acres of playing fields.
The Junior School also has its own Sports Hall.
