Local maths tutor launches course for the under-fives
|
In over ten years of helping local children with their maths, betterMATHS tutor Andrew Kuttner has found that many children are held back
throughout their schooling because they have not developed a real
number-sense in their very early years of education.
His new miniMATHS course is aimed as enabling 3-5 year-olds develop the pre-arithmetic skills required for a confident start to primary school numeracy. At miniMATHS children will learn to read and write numbers, recognise patterns of objects and dots, count to beyond 200, relate number symbols to their quantities and understand basic addition. A miniMATHS Study Supervisor works closely with students, providing focus, encouragement and tuition at each class. Activities include counting with children and using tools like worksheets, flashcards and number boards. Students will also have planned activities to do at home to ensure they have ample, ideally daily, practice.
The miniMATHS course is structured, multi-sensory and personalised for each student. Each child progresses at his or her own pace. For details about miniMATHS and betterMATHS (the course for primary and secondary school children) which both run at Fleming Park Leisure Centre and Alton Community Centre, call Andrew on 08450 662847.
