The dockyards are quite simply a great day out. You can always wander around the dockyard for free and look at the ships. Although you have to pay to go onto the ships and into the museums, the dockyards offer annual or 2 year tickets which are ideal for local residents as you’ll be able to go back again and again to see all the different sights as there’s just too much to fit into one day!
